Red Alert 2 · Yuri's Revenge
Competitive Red Alert 2,
with a way in.
Hundreds of people are online every day. Almost none of them ever play a real game. Iron Curtain is ranked ladders, honest ratings and coaching — built so a new player can find the good players instead of bouncing off them.
Free to play. Free to compete. Every ladder, every map and every rule set is available to everyone — you need your own copy of the game and nothing else.
The problem we actually have
Red Alert 2 is not short of players. On a normal afternoon there are several hundred people online. The problem is that they are in different worlds.
Most are in novelty rooms — survival, invasion, sandbox maps — where nobody learns the game. The people who play it seriously are in a private room you have to be invited to. Between those two groups there is nothing: no visible path, no ladder a stranger can join, no way to find out how good you are without embarrassing yourself in someone else's lobby.
It is a conversion problem, not a population problem. The players are already here.
- Queue on your own Pick a ladder, press one button. The server finds your opponent — no lobby to be judged in, no host deciding whether you are good enough.
- Get matched near your level Skill bands keep first games survivable and widen as you wait, so you are never stuck forever and never fed to someone four classes above you.
- See exactly where you stand A real rating, a class badge, and a plain-English reason whenever you are not yet ranked.
- Get taught Watch live games, study replays, follow the build-order track, or take a mentor. Mentors score on whether you improve.
Six ladders. Each one its own rank.
A rating on one ladder says nothing about another — they are different games and we refuse to pretend otherwise by averaging them into a single meaningless number.
Every ladder pins its rule set by content hash. Your client verifies the bytes it holds before a rated game starts, so nobody can quietly play a different game to everyone else.
Rating you can argue with
Most ladders are a black box. Ours publishes its rules, and every one of them exists because of a specific way ladders get gamed.
Built for a community, not a leaderboard
On fairness
Red Alert 2 is a lockstep game: every machine runs the same simulation and the players only exchange orders. That has a useful property — if someone modifies their game, their simulation diverges from everyone else's and the match aborts for all of them. Cheating in the middle of a game does not win it; it ends it.
We check before that happens instead. Your client verifies the game files that affect the simulation before a rated match, and the rule set is pinned by hash. Files that cannot change a game — language packs, music, video, display wrappers — are never checked, because locking those would only punish people for owning a different legal copy.
Every anti-abuse rule we have is published. If a rule can be explained, it can be argued with — and a rule nobody can argue with is a rule nobody trusts.
